Women changing the world team up to create greatness. Don’t change who you are. Change the world. It’s this powerful message that FNB’s latest commercial in their new “Bank of #TheChangeables” campaign needed to communicate. And one that all of us at Spitfire identified with immediately due to our longstanding commitment to growing new talent in the industry. The fact that the ad was to feature the Springbok Women’s team made it all the more enticing for Spitfire’s newest Director, Hloni Ntsooa.
Co-directing with Spitfire co-founder AK, and working closely with FNB Agency Grid Worldwide, Hloni focussed on exploding the outdated expectations of what a woman is expected to do or become with powerful imagery of these fearless women taking apart the hackneyed stereotypes of the past.

Nothing but real passion from AK and Spitfire for Liqui Fruit.
“Real” has been a hallmark of Spitfire co-founder and Director AK’s work for years. (Check out his other reel at spitfire.tv ) Real passion, real talent, and a real commitment to creating outstanding commercials that inform and engage. Wunderman Thompson and their client Liqui-Fruit thought so too.
Documenting a group of friends documenting a roadtrip called for … well, a roadtrip. Cast, agency and crew embarked on a journey beginning in jozi, stopping over in Villiers and ending on the golden beaches of Durban. Along the way AK captured all the bright, bold colours of summer and combined them with performances as fresh as an ice-cold Liqui-Fruit after a long, hot shoot.
And the berry on top? Marrying that beautiful footage with an amapiano remix of Miss Lira’s Feel Good by Prince Kaybee. Now that’s real awesome. Contact Spitfire now to find out how we can make a real difference to your work too.

"I believe directors and cinematographers remain lifetime students of film, every project an opportunity to sharpen our craft as visual artists and make a valuable contribution to the audio-visual medium"

Having grown up on a diet of seventies shorts and movies from age 2, AK’s love of the visual arts led him to study Stills Photography and Film. He then worked as a Film Editor for four years and started directing TV commercials and short films. He has written two feature film screenplays and is in the progress of a documentary film on ‘Gas Mining in the Karoo’.

Over the past 18 years, he has worked in 28 countries, directed over 280 commercials and has become a DOP too. He has won over 40 international awards, featured at D&AD in New York, One Show, Promax in London, Los Angeles and Africa and the Cannes Advertising Awards. His Tourism 7 Minute Short Film for Malaysian Tourism won two gold media awards in Berlin, Fox Crime two gold Promax and a gold Loerie, Salvation Army’s ‘The Dress’ two gold Loeries and more recently KFC Shakin two more gold Loeries.
